He is a pioneer in bringing endoscopic technology to the area, thus ushering in the modern era of gastroenterology in Northwest Indiana. A foreword looking visionary, Dr. Gupta was a catalyst in setting up the GI lab at Saint Anthony Health Centers in Michigan City. Dr. Gupta is board certified: in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine; and in gastroenterology by the American Board of Gastroenterology. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, and the Indiana State Medical Association. He is active on staff at Saint Anthony Memorial Health Centers in Michigan City, Indiana.

His residency was at Cook County Hospital, Chicago. His fellowship was at the University of Illinois in Chicago.
